Session 3:

This workshop session focused on Project Management. This session was facilitated by Maria Paola McGurk. Maria Paola spoke to the mentees about how to manage, install and budget for an exhibition and various art projects. How to draw in your target audience for exhibitions and projects as well as the importance of understanding the aim behind each show and how that informs the planning .

Session 4:

This Talent Unlocked workshop, facilitated by Mike Smith focussed on How to Write About Your Artwork. Smith discussed with the artist “how to” and “how to not” write about their work, that words and phrases impact how a work is understood and received by an audience. This workshop was followed up by an intensive writing crit session with each of the individual artists in conjunction with the works they have been producing.

Session 5:

Saturday’s Talent Unlocked Session was one of many packed with insight and information. This session focussed on Documenting Your Artwork facilitated by Gemma Garman as well as Approaching Galleries and Pricing Your Work by Lara Koseff. Garman spoke about the importance of photographing artworks for archival purposes, creating online and physical portfolios while Lara Koseff discussed with the artists how to correctly approach galleries and how this may impact an artist’s career.

Session 6:

The sixth out of eight workshops recently happened on Saturday, 5 May.
Saturday session was truly insightful. The session that was held at the Wits Art Museum, focused on Funding with the director of VANSA
, Molemo Moiloa. Molemo explored the different types of funding that are available to artists and how to tailor a proposal for each fund. Molemo also did an in depth session with the artist that included an analysis of writing a successful proposal and including a budget outline. We ended off the day with another peer mentoring session.
