Assemblage invites you to join us for a panel discussion on residencies.

The artist residency is a contemporary phenomenon that allows artists to travel the world, explore and grow their practice, meet other artists and industry players from across the globe and strengthen their identity as an artist. A panel of Johannesburg based artists all recently returned from international residencies will share with us their experiences and knowledge.

Join us on Tuesday 8 Nov at 18:00 at the Assemblage artshub for an evening of discussion and information sharing.

Panel Participants:
Anthea Pokroy - recently completed two months in New York on the Ampersand Residency
Alphabet Zoo (Minenkulu Ngoyi and Isaac Zavale) - spent two weeks in Nantes, France in June as part of the Grafikama project.
Kai Lossgott - is an artist and 21st century consumer. He considers himself a human-in-training. Since 2014 he has lived out of a suitcase. In 2015 he won the Barclays l’Atelier Award for African Artists. He recently returned from nine months at the Cité Internationale des Arts, Paris.
Nicci Olivier - is a multi-disciplinary artist. She was an artist in residence at the Arteles Centre for Creative Freedom in Haukijarvi, Finland for the month of August 2016.
Naadira Patel - is a multidisciplinary artist, researcher and designer. She spent one month at the Bag Factory Artists’ Studios followed by one month at Kooshk Residency in Tehran as part of a residency exchange program.
Io Makandal - recently spent four months in New York at the Nars Foundation

Through the discussion we hope to explore how to go about getting a residency, funding options, time periods, different types, why to go on residency and the impact on the artist’s career.
