From April 2013 - March 2014 a selection of artists were granted bursaries for studio space at the Assemblage Studios. These bursaries were made possible by The African Arts Trust. The exhibition, End Point, will culminate this bursary period and showcase what these artists have created over the last year.
The artists express their thoughts on their year at the Assemblage Studios:
‘This environment channeled me to produce work constantly, interact with other artists and art enthusiasts. The space nurtured notions of collaboration, community and this in turn accelerated my artistic practice, and encouraged me to be a more organised and a professional artist.’ - Phumulani Ntuli
‘Being at Assemblage has given me more space to produce larger work. This has allowed me to challenge myself and push my chosen mediums to their limit. Also there are other artists who I can share ideas with and learn from. Working around other artists has the benefit of creating some competitiveness which drives us all to work harder.’ - Ross Passmoor
‘The bursary has enabled me to realise some of the works I envisioned with the opportunity for collaborations with other artists. Through having a studio at Assemblage, I have engaged with the broader arts community of Johannesburg, a city I'm new to and still fairly unfamiliar with.’ - Bongani Njalo
The exhibition will include work by Zwelethu Machepha, Bongani Njalo, Phumulani Ntuli, Ross Passmoor and Gina Van Zyl.
Date: 26 Feb 2014
Time: 17:30 - 20:30
Venue: Two by Two Art Studio, 41 Gwi Gwi Mrwebi St, Newtown
The exhibition will run until 7 March 2014.
