Assemblage and SoMa Art + Space invite you to join them at the opening of ‘I am Mine’, an exhibition of works by a selection of artists currently engaging with Assemblage on Sunday 10 July from 12-3pm at SoMa in Maboneng.
As part of the Fringe of the Turbine Art Fair, which is on from 14- 17 July in Newtown, ‘I am Mine’ seeks to explore the idea of what makes each artist unique, what it means to be an artist, and how each artist locates him/herself in the space and place of Johannesburg today. While the process of putting together this exhibition has been swift, Assemblage has taken the opportunity to explore what it is each artist feels makes them an artist, what makes them unique, interesting, exciting, different in the context of the contemporary Johannesburg art scene.
‘I am Mine’ is a brief snippet, view, look into the mindset of artists working within the city of Johannesburg today, with curatorial input by Gontse Mathabathe and Teboho Ralesai.
Exhibiting artists include: Nicci Olivier, Janet Wilson, Louise van der Bijl, Isaac Zavale, Minenkulu Ngoyi, Jonathon Kassel, Leonora Venter, Angus MacKinnon, Candice Kramer, Mpho Mokgadi, Fiver Locker, Renee Johannes, Sifiso Themba
